“If my husband cheats, I will castrate him’ – Uche Jombo

“If my husband cheats, I will castrate him’ – Uche Jombo

uche jombo and husband naijaurban If my husband cheats, I will castrate him Uche Jombo

In this interview with Sam Olatunji, Uche Jombo speaks on cheating and new movie ‘Unconditional’.
What is it with the celebrity kids on your new movie, ‘Unconditional’?
We didn’t set out to use celebrity kids. I told everyone including you the age range I want and people suggested the kids. Aghahowa’s daughter has wanted to act since age 5, we auditioned Chigozie, and she did well and got a coach to coach them. 2face’s daughter is just a drama queen. And this movie, Unconditional is not all about them, Dakore, Ruth Kadiri and I acted in it. It’s the kind of move that will touch the heart.
If your husband were to be a serial philanderer like Desmond’s character in the movie, Lies Men Tell, what will you do?

JOHN ALECHENU writes that the controversy over the Senate’s resolution  on a recommendation by its committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution appears to have overshadowed the highpoints of the exercise
Since the return of democracy in 1999, there has been a growing clamour for a review of the nation’s constitution.
Some groups have even called for a new constitution.
Those in this school of thought argue that the 1999 constitution is a document crafted and bequeathed to Nigerians by the military.
In a response to various agitations, the 7th National Assembly had set up committees to review the document.

It seems our dear singer/single mum, Omawumi wants to remain a ghetto girl and continue to act as such. The babe has made some good money in recent times and as such one would have expected that her way of reasoning and actions would improved, accordingly. But that is not the case.
Omawumi’s recent dirty fight with a guy in Lagos leaves one speechless:
We gathered that the unfortunate incident took place at a public function recently. The guy, said to be a photo journalist, identified as Adekola Bamigbala, who was taking pictures of guests at the event, got to where Omawumi.

We must be grateful to Mourinho —Casillas

We must be grateful to Mourinho —Casillas

Iker Casillas insists he is grateful to former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho for his contribution to the success of the club.
Mourinho won three trophies during his three-year stint at Santiago Bernabeu, although the latter part of his tenure is best remembered for public fallout with Casillas which led to the club captain being frozen out of the first team.
Casillas, however, has stressed that the current Chelsea boss’ efforts in La Liga cannot be ignored, although he is relishing the prospect of beginning a new campaign under replacement coach Carlo Ancelotti.
“I’ve only been training with Carlo, I don’t know what differences there are (between Ancelotti and Mourinho), but it’s not a question of looking back. You have to be grateful for Mourinho’s contribution to Real Madrid, but now we have to start with the hope that the club can be at the top,” he told a press conference.
“He’s a winner, that’s obvious to everyone, but he’ll make it clear from the beginning. This club was on the edge of titles last season; we want to complete our objectives in all three competitions.”
Casillas says competition for places at the club is good under Ancelotti — but admitted he was desperate to regain his No.1 spot next season.
“Competition is always healthy. There are very good goalkeepers here and we must learn to live with that. I hear a lot about competition for my post, but in other parts of the pitch there are two or three players for one position as well,” he added.

Those clamouring for northern President are jokers –Ohanaeze

Those clamouring for northern President are jokers –Ohanaeze

Ohanaeze
Ahead of the 2015 general Elections, pan-Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has asked those clamouring for a President of a Northern extraction to banish such thought.
President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Kano State chapter, Chief Tobias Idika, in a statement on Tuesday, bemoaned the plight of the Igbos within the country’s political configuration, saying it appeared that people of the South-East were no longer Nigerians.
He said, “The truth is that it appears the South-East is no longer part of this country. If it were to be in an ideal society, where justice and equity reign supreme, our brothers from the North should have had that moral obligation to graciously surrender power to the South-East at the expiration of President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.
“For informed minds, the history of politics and power sharing in this country has never favoured the South-East since independence and it is obvious that since the civil war, our brothers from the North believe that we are a conquered people and should not be considered in the socio-political cum economic arrangements in Nigeria.
“The same power they seek was with them for over three decades, and yet the North is counted as the poorest and most backward in terms of education and human development. It then means that those who clamour for power in the North do so for their own selfish aggrandisement.
“What is the need of clamouring for power when they cannot use it to develop their region?”
He added, “The point I want to hit on the head remains that immediately after President Goodluck Jonathan, power must shift to the South-East. Ndigbo must have their turn and it is non-negotiable. My advice to our brothers in the North is to be considerate and stop seeing political power as their birthright. At this point, one begins to think that some cabals in the North manufactured the Boko Haram just to stampede Nigerians into agreeing to their terms of taking power back.”
Giving what could be described as a blow-by-blow account of Monday night’s carnage perpetrated by the Islamist Boko Haram sect in Kano, Idika, who is also the President-General, Leaders of Ethnic Communities Resident in Kano State, said 45 people lost their lives.
According to him, it was not the first time non-indigenes were being targeted by the group.
He, however, commended the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 1, and the state Commissioner of Police, Musa Daura, who, according to him, were at the scene of the incident for an on-the-spot assessment.
He said,”On Monday, July 29, between 9 and 9.30pm, terrorists invaded Sabon Gari, an enclave for non-natives and planted Improvised Explosive Devices, which exploded almost simultaneously at Enugu/Igbo Road, near International Hotel and on New Road, directly opposite the popular Ado Bayero Square, precisely at No. 38, 39, 40 and 41.
“At 41, New Road, Christ Salvation Pentecostal Church was also bombed at the peak of evening worship. Ohanaeze’s account can confirm 39 deaths on New Road and six on Igbo/Enugu Road. Also, unspecified number of people got injured. The team of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Kano State chapter, arrived the scenes at about 9.30pm and witnessed the moving of dead bodies and the wounded by security agencies, mostly the Army.”

Police, hoodlums accused of killing undergraduate, friend

Police, hoodlums accused of killing undergraduate, friend

Policemen attached to the Badagry Police Division, Lagos State, and some hoodlums have been accused of killing a 25-year-old undergraduate of Delta State University, Ifechukwude Nwainokpor, and his friend, identified simply as Kazeem.
An eight-minute video clip of the gruesome killing, which was made available to PUNCH Metro, showed the two victims handcuffed together. They were covered in their own blood and beaten to death with sticks. Tyres were also put round   their necks.
An irate mob could be seen in the video, shouting, “die, die, burn them, burn them.”
At some points in the video, a policeman was seen interviewing the boys. He asked who sent them (victims) to rob the area, an accusation they denied. One of the hoodlums, holding a sharp object attempted to cut off the private part of one of the victims.
Nwainokpor could be seen pleading with the hoodlums and policemen to spare his life, saying he could identify himself if given a chance. His plea, however, fell on deaf ears.
Our correspondent, who visited the family of Nwainokpor  on Tuesday, learnt that the lynching took place around 3pm on July 21, 2013 in Ajara area of Badagry, a community not far from Nwainokpor’s family home.
His father, Samuel, told PUNCH Metro that his son was arrested while passing through a street in the area  but a misunderstanding later ensued and the hoodlums pounced on  him  and Kazeem.
He added that  Nwainokpor, who was nicknamed Ify, was a final year student of Geology and Mining.
He said, “On that particular day, I was in Ghana when I received a telephone call  that I should come immediately. My wife was in Delta State taking care of her   mother.
“When I arrived two days later, my relatives and the caretaker of my house  told me that my son was killed in the Ajara area along with his friend. I was devastated.
“I got my son a  temporary job with a Customs licensed  agent since their lecturers were on strike.  He worked everyday except on Sundays when he visited his  friends. On that day, he went to see Kazeem and they were strolling around Ajara.”
Samuel said because there had been a robbery in Ajara four days earlier, some of the residents were on the lookout for strange faces.
He added that when the youth  saw two unknown young men, they  accosted them and an argument ensued.
He said the youth  called the head of the vigilante group   in the area, one Asiribo.
He said, “Asiribo came to the scene with a locally-made pistol and handcuffs. He handcuffed my son and his friend  before asking them questions.
“Later, it was decided that the boys be taken to the Baale, Agano Oniyon of Agamade Ajara. But as they were going, Asiribo, while trying to return his gun into its  pouch, mistakenly shot himself in the stomach and died.”
Samuel said Asiribo’s death infuriated the youth, who  blamed the boys for  his  death.
“The mob picked up sticks  and beat them to death. Policemen were there,”   he  said.
Holding back tears, the retired immigration officer   added  that the police treated the matter as a robbery case. Beating  his chest,  Samuel said there was no way his son would have been involved in  armed robbery.
He said, “I have been living in Badagry since 1982. I have  only two children and Ifechukwude  is the  first. Ironically, he was born in that same area where he was killed.
“I have lived in this area without any trouble and  the residents  can tell you that my sons are good  boys.”
Nwainokpor’s boss, Aloysius Onyenibedi, described him as an honest and hardworking person.
“I trusted him to the extent that I used to keep a lot of money with him. He was good to my children and was honest,” he said.
The Nwainokpor family berated the Divisional Police Officer, Badagry Police Station,  Dankoli Mohammed, for the manner he treated the case.
Samuel said when he approached the DPO, he was told that his son was killed at midnight for armed robbery.
He said, “When the policemen came to take the corpses, guns were planted on them. Policemen at the station told the DPO that they were robbers. Their corpses were taken along with that Asiribo to Badagry General Hospital’s mortuary.
“The following morning, the DPO released Asiribo’s corpse for burial without investigation. My relatives went to the station and after showing the DPO the video, the matter was transferred to the Area K Command.
“At Present, Asiribo’s son has fled, while the DPO has been unable to identify the policemen who were present at the scene when my son  and his friend were killed.”
PUNCH Metro however learnt that through the video, some people had arrested one of the perpetrators. The suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,  Panti, Yaba.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said, “The incident is quite pathetic. Even if they were armed robbers, no one has the right to take the life of another. Why then do we have the police and the judiciary? The Nigerian police as well as the law condemn mob action and jungle justice. The commissioner of police has set up a high- powered investigation body to investigate the matter.”

The Niger Delta self declared militant, Mujahid Abubakr Asari Dokubo has given his opinion concerning the Underage Marriage Bill recently approved.
He took to facebook page to express his opinion on the issues.
“People should learn to respect other people’s sensibilities. We Muslims have the right to marry when we want or give out our daughters at any age we want. It is not your business and the law must respect our right to do so.
Anything short of that is an infringement on our rights. We did not ask you to marry ladies of that age or give your daughters out in marriage at that age. Plzzzzzzzz respect our sensibilities.”

SEX HAS ELUDED ME FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS – Genevieve Nnaji

Genny
I don’t know what to make of this and I am sure many of you out there will surely find this difficult to believe but Nollywood star actress and unarguably, the most popular actress in Africa, Genevieve Nnaji has come out with this stunning confession that for ten good years, she has not gone under the sheets to perform any naughty act with a man. Hmmm, so, you may ask, she has only been using her ‘thing’ to ‘piss’? Just as I find this confession of hers hard to cotton to, some ‘aprokos’ are telling me to ask her what she was doing with ‘No Long Thing’ crooner, Dapo Oyebanji aka D’Banj. Were they just staring at the ‘long thing’ or was the ‘thing’ not long enough? I shudder to think that D’Banj actually let her ‘hold body’ while he was just blowing songs for her. My dear Genny, do not let any of these nay-sayers pull you down. If you say you did not ‘do’ for ten years, who is there to test you? It is your prerogative but now that I hear you are getting set to say ‘I Do’, I am sure you will need to do a whole new ‘re-opening’ or may be I should say official ‘re-launching’. Whichever, I have got your back….

Senior Magistrate Nafisat Ibrahim sentenced the accused with an option of N10,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the Police prosecutor, Cpl. Francis Tanko, told the court that one Emmaunella Osajie, the mother of six-year-old girl of 86 Army Barracks, Kubwa, reported the case at the Wuse Police station.

Tanko said that the complainant had reported that the convict came to her office at Poly Plaza, Wuse, on the pretext of coming to type a document.

Jonathan stops arbitrary contract cost variation by ministers

President Goodluck Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday ordered his ministers to, henceforth, stop their penchant for indiscriminate requests for augmentation or variation of the cost of projects.
He said in a situation where augmentation became inevitable, such cost variation should not exceed 15 per cent of the original cost of the projects.
The President gave the directive during the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Yerima’s original sin

Yerima’s original sin

Yerima’s original sin
Nigerians worship two gods in their political affairs: tribe and religion. Both are more vengeful than Soponna, the Yoruba god of smallpox, but religion is more easily provoked and invoked. So, in 2010 when Sani Yerima — the man who kick-started the Sharia law controversy in Nigeria — married a minor, he reached for a choice armament: religion.
When he was questioned on the illegal –and immoral- act of snagging a child from the cradle, he claimed it was consistent with his religious beliefs. From painful experience, we know when someone like Yerima yells that his religion is threatened, the almajiri army in his constituency would need no further prompting before they commence burning anyone and everything. Yerima was thus left alone with his bride. Until the fury that the failed constitution amendment generated last week, Yerima’s marriage was a latent issue. It is remarkable that the ongoing debate did not even start with the malignant problem of child marriage, yet, it has become that all the same. Yerima is the face of the hoopla because of his original sin.

The upgrade followed the disqualification of the United States’ team that initially won the Gold based on drug-related issues.
Shortly after their decoration with the upgraded medals, President Goodluck Jonathan announced a cash reward of N5m each for the six athletes and N7m each for their two handlers.

Nyako free to leave PDP –Tukur

PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, has asked the Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, to leave the party, if he desires to do so.
He also said there was no way the party could die, whether he (Nyako) left or not.
Tukur, who is from Adamawa State, was responding to statements credited to the governor and the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Kobies Aris, that he (Tukur) was working towards killing the party and should be removed.
In a statement by his Media Assistant, Mr. Oliver Okpala, in Abuja on Wednesday, Tukur said it was wrong for them to have said the party would die.
He said, “The question of his threatening to move out of the party is his constitutional right and nobody can challenge his right to move out of the party. However, as long as he remains in the PDP, he must align himself with the party discipline; which is the bedrock of enthroning internal democracy in the party.

School expels, suspends pupils for praying, alleged assault

School expels, suspends pupils for praying, alleged assault

Gaskiya college
Twelve pupils of Gaskiya Senior College, Ijora, Lagos State, are currently undergoing punishments for holding fellowship beyond the time allowed in the school and allegedly assaulting the principal.
The students were also branded “cultists” by the school principal, Mrs Oghenetega Sobowale, who signed the letters that informed them of their punishments.
While one of the students was expelled, five were placed on indefinite suspension. The six others were given lesser punishment. The suspended students have been missing third term examinations currently being written by their schoolmates
The students involved are Ejiro John, Otega John, Michael Changa, Valentine Okoye, Faith Okolie, Chidinma Chidozie, Jennifer Emmanuel, Eunice Ikpesu, Okiemute Jeremiah, Goodluck Kalu, Samuel Egwu and Rebecca David.
Otega, 16-year-old SS2 student, said it was a break down in communication that caused their problem.
He said, “We usually hold fellowship on Tuesdays after school hours by 3.30pm. The principal had told us to always end it at 5pm.
“On April 2, 2013, while the 12 of us were praying, the school guard entered and told us that the principal said we should end the fellowship immediately. My brother, Ejiro, told the guard we were rounding off. But the guard told the principal that we refused to leave.”
Otega said the principal came into the class as they were saying the closing prayer and later pounced on Jennifer Emmanuel who was “praying fervently.”
He said, “Jennifer was not aware that the principal was standing beside her and she mistakenly hit the principal as she was praying.
“Not long after, a teacher came and wrote our names and classes. He told us to bring our parents the next day.”
Another of the affected students, Ejiro, said, “On the following day, we were called out during the morning assembly. A teacher announced to the school that we were cultists.
“Later in the day, our parents had a meeting with the Principal, Vice-Principal Mr. Omonijo, and other members of staff. The principal refused our pleas. She also warned the teachers against pleading for us.”
Another affected student, Okiemute Jeremiah, said, like her, all the SS3 students involved were prefects of the school.
She said, “We were removed from our various positions by the principal. Mrs. Sobowale also banned the fellowship and gave us a week suspension. She told our parents that the case would be reported to Education District V.”
Chidinma Chidozie, who also spoke with our correspondent, said, “On the second day of third term, we received letters from the principal that five SS2 students involved had been suspended indefinitely. Jennifer Emmanuel, also in SS2, was expelled.”
The remaining six SS3 students were issued letters titled, ‘Re: Emergence of cultism in school’, in which they were accused of “insurgency.”
Copies of the letters, which were shown to our correspondent, stated that the SS3 students would only be allowed to write Senior Secondary Certificate Examination if their parents accompanied them to school on each examination day.
One of the parents, Mrs. Beauty John, lamented the fate of her children.
She said, “We have pleaded with the principal and we have written letters of apology to her. We copied the letters and sent them to Education District V. But all to no avail.
Mrs Goodness Chidozie, said she had been praying for divine intervention because he daughter, Chidinma, was still in SS2.
Okiemute’s father, Mr. Ojagbube Jeremiah, said, “My daughter missed one SSCE paper because I couldn’t go with her on the examination day. She is a good Christian, but the the government has it in its record that she is a cultist. I want her name cleared.”
Michael Changa’s mother, Mrs. Jacinta Changa, said, “This is a serious case and I want Governor Babtunde Fashola to intervene.”
When our correspondent called the principal on the telephone, she said she would rather speak in person. However, she told our correspondent in her office, “The case is no longer in my hands. It is now handled by Education District V. I am not authorised to speak.”
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, said he was aware of the students’ expulsion and suspensions.
He said, “We will investigate the case of Gaskiya Senior College. The government will not allow the students to be unjustly punished if they didn’t commit any offence. However, I want to state that if the students were actually Christians, who are morally upright, I find it difficult to believe that one of them will mistakenly slap the principal.
“While we won’t allow the students to be unjustly punished, we will not also allow the principal to be ridiculed. We will not tolerate indiscipline.”

Banks to keep 50% of govt deposits with CBN •Monetary policy rate retained at 12%

Banks to keep 50% of govt deposits with CBN •Monetary policy rate retained at 12%

CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi
The Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday expressed concern over the excess liquidity in the balance sheets of Deposit Money Banks, saying that henceforth, it would apply 50 per cent Cash Reserves Requirement to all government deposits with commercial banks.
The decision, which was announced by the Governor, CBN, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, was taken at the Monetary Policy Committee meeting held at the central bank’s headquarters in Abuja.
CRR is the amount of cash that banks have to keep with the central bank and is used to drain out excessive money from the system.
If the central bank decides to increase the CRR, the available amount with the banks reduces.
Sanusi, who said 10 out of the 12-member committee attended the meeting, stated that the CRR would be applied on all federal, state and local government deposits as well as all Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
For other private sector deposits, he said the CRR would remain at 12 per cent.
Also, by a vote of nine to one, the committee agreed to hold the Monetary Policy Rate at 12 per cent.
It also maintained the symmetric corridor around the MPR at +/-two per cent.
Sanusi said the introduction of the 50 per cent CRR to public sector funds became imperative in order to further tighten liquidity owing to increased spending in preparation for the 2015 elections.
The spending by politicians, according to him, may exert pressure on the exchange rate and inflation.
The governor noted that about N1.3tn of public sector deposits were currently with commercial banks, adding that such huge fund posed a risk to the current liquidity condition.
He said, “First of all, you have got liquidity in the banking industry. As I speak to you, we got over N1.3tn or so in banks belonging to government agencies. Now, this is basically there at zero per cent interest and the banks are lending about N2tn to the government and charging 14 per cent.
“Now, if you want to discourage such behaviour, first of all is to basically take away that money and, therefore, the reserve requirement is to make sure that that excess liquidity in the banks’ balance sheet (are taken away), and it is just about six or seven banks that really account for the bulk of this, and we are not going to put them in distress.
“Secondly, this is just the beginning; if there continues to be spending and we are concerned about liquidity conditions, we foresee in the future continued increase in the Cash Reserves Ratio, which is possible as we continue to maintain tight liquidity conditions.
“Election year is everywhere not just only in Nigeria, but everywhere in the world. And in every election year, politicians spend money and spending money means pressure on exchange rate and pressure on inflation.”
The central bank boss said the next one year would be a very difficult period for monetary policy, adding that the country might see a further increase in interest rates instead of a reduction.
For instance, he said the CBN would continue to increase the Cash Reserves Ratio for public sector deposits until such accounts were returned back to the central bank.
He said, “The next 12 months will be difficult. We would have to respond at every stage and make sure that no matter what happens, we do not have stability pressures.
“So, this is a first step in addressing one major chunk. We have done it on public sector deposits and, then probably, if the government for instance decides that public sector account should come back to central bank then the CRR will be reviewed on that, but if it is out there, then CRR is 50 per cent.”
He said the increase in CRR for public sector deposits was a form of tightening as it would help the exchange rate during a rise in fiscal spending.
“We have done that without increasing the MPR and it is also a cost-effective way of managing money for us. It is time for us to begin to share the cost of monetary management,” Sanusi added.
When asked if there were no possibilities of reducing the MPR in the near future, he said, “There are two major concerns before us now. The fiscal position of government is a big problem.”
He added, “The deficit in the first half of this year is over N400bn compared to over N200bn last year. We have drawn over N700bn from Excess Crude Account and at a time when the government is borrowing more, you don’t expect the monetary authority to lower rates of interest.
“The second thing is that you’ve got fragile financial markets and we have lots of money in portfolios, which means any shock will begin to witness outflows that would put pressures on reserves and currency. And then, you’ve got elections coming up.
“So, the outlook for us suggests we should hold for now. There is a higher likelihood of rates going up than rates going down in the immediate future.”
On the controversy surrounding the approval of the CBN’s financial statement by the Financial Reporting Council, Sanusi said the board of the bank and not the FRC approved the bank’s reports.
He said, “On our accounts, the FRC does not approve our accounts. The board of the central bank had approved our account. The FRC is there to set accounting standards and to make sure they are improved on to meet international best practices.
“I am not aware of any issues that have been raised and I will like to put an end to all of that speculation. There is nothing like FRC not approving our account.
“There is nothing like a query on our account and there is nothing like complaints about IFRS academy.”
The CBN boss said the country’s external reserves rose to $47.99bn as of July 18, 2013 from $43.83bn at the end of December 2012, representing a rise of $4.16bn or 9.49 per cent year-to-date.
The level of reserves, he stated, could provide cover for approximately 11 months of import.
